Living on a landed property is a blessing and a luxury and something that you should maximize when you’re redesigning the space. The best thing about it is that you have a lot of space to move around and experiment with, in terms of design and decor. You can totally immerse yourself in all of the options readily available to you.
The fact that you have so many options available though doesn’t mean that the process will be easy for you. As a matter of fact, it can be quite the opposite. The abundance of options can get a little too overwhelming. The rule here is that you have to make up your mind on the kind of vibe you want to create and then work from there. In our landed property interior design projects, we’ll walk you through on how to recreate a resort-like vibe in your own property, such as this Joo Chiat Ave project.
Make it minimalist and space friendly
Even if you happen to have a lot of space, it still helps to make your layout space-friendly in the best way possible. The minimalist aesthetic has been around for quite a while. It has a very modern and clean look to it and can be the key to you creating an airy and elegant-looking home.
What we’ve done for this Meng Suan landed property living room is just that. The big and airy space reels you in and invites you to come over, sit down and enjoy the interiors. Keep it clean by sticking to only a few key pieces that don’t overwhelm the area. Also make sure that you leave a lot of room to move around in to really give a spacious vibe.
Set the tone in resort-like colors
Resort-like colors depict luxury and relaxation at the same time. In this living room space, we’re trying to go for the coastal look and feel by injecting a lot of coastal blue all around. You can go with just one hue without going monochromatic with it by playing with different gradients and tones of the same color. Blues, turquoise, sea green and other similar gradients can help depict that vibe. This is something that you can easily recreate for your landed property. Go with shades that area cool and easy on the eyes.
Get some statement pieces in
The next thing you’d want to do is to implement interesting accent pieces in the interiors. Very similar to what resorts do and similar to what we’ve done in this dining area, invest on statement pieces that are bold while keeping the rest of the surrounding design elements minimal.
This will draw the eye and attention while the rest of the elements will sort of just complement and somewhat fade out into the background. In this case, we put up an artsy industrial designed low level chandelier to be the statement piece for the space. It’s the ultimate expression of individuality without muddling the design theme at all.
Let the outdoors shine through
Understandably and quite evidently, one of the main elements of a resort style theme that works in well with landed properties is a great selection of actual plants. The explosion of green is a welcome respite from the at times muted or stark neutrals that work as a base.
In this patio, we worked in an indoor-outdoor transitional space that, although having a lot of decorative elements from the lighting fixtures to the furniture pieces, made the plants the main focal point of attention. You can even get this done indoors. You can make use of real live plants or faux plants or even a combination of both.
Get natural fabrics that feel fresh and crisp
You want to have the feeling of luxury in the beddings as well, as with what any good resort can offer you. The standard is sticking to white linen fabrics. They’re crisp, lux, and absolutely clean-looking. Also, this allows you to include darker tones in the room without making the space feel closed in and overwhelming. A canopy bed really takes the cake on this one. Pair it with some high-end curtains and you’ve recreated the luxurious resort vibe right off the bat.
Create a spa vibe for the bathroom
And of course, to really complete the look, create a bathroom design that feels like a spa. Just because your landed property isn’t a resort, it doesn’t mean it can’t pass off as one. We played around with smooth wood paneling and patterned tiles to really finish off the look in this amazing landed space.
